Charlotte specialised in legal issues of sustainable development and democracy in public international law, constitutional law, and European law and has over 15 years of teaching, research and consulting experience. She is a world leading expert in trade agreements, with a particular interest in their role in sustainable value creation and in multi-level governance of democracy. Charlotte is the senior researcher of the SNSF Sinergia research project "Making Trade Agreements Work in the Service of Society" at the Centre for Trade and Economic Integration, Geneva Graduate Institute. She also holds the chair for international economic law, public economic law and sustainable development at Zurich Law School/Kalaidos FH and teaches international economic law at the University of Zurich and international environmental law at ZHAW. Her research has been the impetus for legal revisions in Switzerland on various occasions and has inspired the founding of the legal-tech company Besso (democratization of trade preferences).

Developed distance learning programme in multi-level governance of the economy, with a special focus on sustainable development. Taught public economic law, EU law and public international law. Organised two large conferences and edited two conference volumes under the umbrella of «law and sustainable development». Contributed actively to the research profile of the school as a member of the research commission and the commissioner for the promotion of research.
Conducted legal research for research project «Making Trade Agreements Work in the Service of Society». Built a database on domestic flanking policies. Managed the supervision of one doctoral fellow and the coordination of research collaboration within the interdisciplinary core team consisting of myself, two PostDoc fellows, and three doctoral fellows. Ensured the achievement of research objectives and output, ensured collaboration with the three Principle Investigators.
Taught various subjects of Swiss Public Law as lecturer and tutor. Stepped in as coach to the ELSA John H. Jackson Moot Court team. Contributed to a textbook in public economic law. Supervised and preliminary reviewed Master and Doctoral theses. Undertook administrative and content work, incl. exam corrections, on behalf of the chair and the department for public law. Was the elected representative of academic staff members in the senate for four years.
Conducted legal research on Brexit. Managed, maintained and contributed to the institute's Blog. Met with and advised political interest groups on legal aspects of Brexit.
Conducted research on services trade liberalisation, labour migration and the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership. Tutored European law and taught international economic law. Engaged in public outreach and a number of legal opinions. Supervised and preliminary reviewed Master theses.
Conducted research for the PhD thesis on South-South services trade liberalisation. Presented preliminary findings at international conferences. Published related research in journals and books.
