An experienced professional in the education and Social Services sector, specialising in special education and inclusion. With genuine commitment and adaptability, I am dedicated to working closely with families, schools and professionals to provide targeted support and guidance to students with special needs. Possess excellent communication and organisational skills, as well as in-depth knowledge of supporting learners with complex challenges. My reliability, punctuality, and decisiveness help me work efficiently and always address the needs of all involved. Complemented by comprehensive IT skills and confident demeanour, I ensure focused and structured collaboration.
Working within a defined geographical area I was responsible for all aspects of the statutory assessment process in relation to requests, re-assessments, amendments and complex placement decisions within statutory timescales. My role required me to work collaboratively and cooperatively with families, parents/carers of children and young people undergoing statutory assessment. I was expected to specialise in and work with school-aged pupils between the ages of 5 and 14 years as well as young people aged over the age of 16 who have left compulsory schooling.
Main duties and responsibilities:
Work collaboratively and cooperatively with the parents/carers of children and young people undergoing statutory assessment and who have Education Health and Care (EHC) Plans from assessment through to placement. I had to ensure that families are involved with the process and keep them informed about the process that the child or young person is central to any decision made about them.
I conducted the statutory assessment process from initiation to the issue of the Final EHC Plan within the statutory timescales including statutory re-assessments. I wrote EHC Plans using the information gathered as part of the assessment and worked collaboratively with wider professional agencies (e.g.) Speech and Language therapists, paediatricians, Specialist teachers, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and Educational Psychologists) to ensure the outcomes specified in the plan are identified and are delivered and that an appropriate placement is named.
Provided detailed information on placement and provision for individual pupils during decision-making meetings, facilitating informed decisions.
Attended, initiated, and organised meetings to ensure key stakeholder participation in statutory assessment processes, re-assessments, and Annual review meetings.
I had to be able to explain to others, specifically the families and parents/carers of children and young people as well as settings as to how to navigate the Local Offer website and locate relevant information.
Maintained a live database, ensuring accuracy and currency of records, reports, and information for efficient access.
My role involved building and maintaining positive and effective relationships with settings, health providers and other key practitioners such as Social Care colleagues ensuring that the service works effectively in partnership with all key stakeholders and other appropriate service linked to the children and their family’s needs.
My role as a District Assistant required me to proficiently transition between a range of tasks, demonstrating my ability to prioritise and coordinate critical, time-sensitive responsibilities. Throughout daily tasks I gained knowledge of the Statutory Assessment and annual review processes. I built good relationships with schools and a variety of professionals. Furthermore, my role required me to work closely with parents, young people and carers of children that have an EHC plan or are currently undergoing a Statutory Assessment by making sure that they are kept informed about the process, any developments and transitions.
